Meet the Doctors

Dr. Dorothy A. Sonya

Dr. Sonya received her degrees in Doctor of Dental Medicine (1981), Licentiate of Dental Medicine(1982) and Masters of Science (Biomechanics), as well as her Diploma in Orthodontics (1988) at the University of Manitoba Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Dr. Sonya taught in the pedodontic and orthodontic programs at the University of Manitoba and was involved with the Winnipeg Specialist Society, where she was president in 1990 before moving to beautiful White Rock in 1992. Dr. Sonya has been actively involved in orthodontics and has actively pursued advancement in orthodontic education.

She holds membership in many societies and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (1993), a Diplomate of the American Board Orthodontics (1993), a member of the Cleft Lip/Palate and Craniofacial team at Children's Hospital in Vancouver (as of 2000), as well as a founding member (and current board member) of the Pacific Alliance of Dental Specialties (PADS), which provides continuing education to all members of the dental team in the Fraser Valley (as of 2001). She is also a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC (2001), and an affiliate of the Angle Society (2007). She has presented lectures to many study clubs and orthodontic societies and has a special interest in the role of technology in the orthodontic office.

Dr. Bo I. Hoglund

Dr. Hoglund received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at the Royal Caroline Institute in Stockholm, Sweden (1978) and practiced as a general dentist for 10 years before starting his specialist training at Specialistutbildningarna in Linkoping, Sweden. After receiving his Specialist license in orthodontics (1992), he practiced at the Specialistcentrum in Norrkoping until his move to Canada in 2000. Dr. Hoglund was Head of Continuing Dental Education for all dentists and dental personnel in the province of Ostergotland, Sweden (1995-2000) and Board member of IT-strategy in the province of Ostergotlands (1996-2000). In order to practice as a dentist and orthodontic specialist in Canada, Dr. Hoglund took the National Dental Examination Board (N.D.E.B., 2000) and the Fellowship Examination to The Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Orthodontics (2001). Dr. Hoglund is a founding and Board member of the Pacific Alliance of Dental Specialties. He has provided many lectures in orthodontics in Sweden and Canada.
