New Patients

We work with patients of all ages and backgrounds, and we specialize in working with patients that require a little extra care or attention, including those with special needs. We determine the best course of treatment based on your unique situation, including reviewing your medical and dental history, giving you a clinical examination, and taking digital photos of your face and teeth. We also work closely with your general dentist, and in certain situations with periodontists (gum specialists) and oral surgeons.

One of our unique offerings is that we pair each patient with the same assistant throughout the entire treatment. Our patients know that they can call their orthodontic assistant with any questions or concerns they might have, and they know what to expect when they come in for each appointment.

Here's how our new patient process works:

Step 1  Consultation & Exam (1 hr)

Your first visit with us is a consultation where we perform a clinical exam and usually take digital photos. We use the information from your exam and images to outline your preliminary treatment plan.

Step 2  Records (1 hr)

After the consultation, the next step is to take diagnostic records to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records normally include:

We also use these records to track the progress of your treatment over time.

Step 3  Case Presentation (1 hr)

During your case presentation, Drs. Sonya, Hoglund or Nagamatsu will discuss your treatment options and plan in detail, including the cost for your particular case.

Step 4  Appliance Fitting Appointment (1 to 2 hr)

During your first orthodontic appointment, you will get your appliance.

Step 5  Regular Appointments (10 to 40 min)

After you receive your appliance, you'll see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 10 to 40 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only, so you’ll need to book your appointments ahead of time.
